My Faith Was Make-Or-Break
UTC came at the perfect time in my life. I was in a make-or-break period in my faith where God was giving me a choice. I could continue to be a lukewarm Christian, or I could find some way to truly experience God and spark the flame in my soul. He led me to sign up for UTC out of faith. I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but I knew I needed something to catalyze my walk with Christ. Before getting to camp, I remember praying that God would tear me down, humble me, and then build me back up again the way He wanted to…and that’s exactly what God did.
UTC taught me so many things about being a follower of Christ, about community, about myself, but most importantly, about worship. Camp taught me how to sing out to God during the worship music, how to have conversations with people in a way that reflects Jesus, and how to glorify him through the platform of sport.
Through the course of the camp, I was challenged mentally, physically, and spiritually. My body was completely spent and exhausted, to the point where just walking seemed daunting. But Jesus stepped in and carried me over every single hurdle, even when my body was shutting down. The peace and joy that I had, even through the hurt and exhaustion that I felt, was like nothing I’ve ever experienced.
UTC was one of those crossroads in my life that changed me forever. The way that I approach my sport and the people in my life is forever different thanks to UTC. I no longer worry about what people might think about me, how much collegiate success I obtain, or feel the fear of failure because I know that I am a son of God.
