Serving A Global God

This past spring break, I had the incredible opportunity to travel to Turin, Italy, to volunteer at the 2025 Special Olympics World Games. Just ten weeks earlier, I had undergone hip surgery to repair a sports injury. Unsure if I would be able to travel or serve so soon after surgery, I sought clearance from my surgeon and physical therapist. They approved, but I knew I’d have to rely on others throughout the trip since I couldn’t walk or lift much. Still, I felt God calling me to give what I could, so I surrendered my fear and leaned into His strength.

During the trip, I was deeply moved by the unity and joy surrounding the competition. Sports have shaped me over 12 years of swimming, teaching me perseverance, teamwork, and compassion, and I believe everyone deserves that same opportunity. As someone whose sister has competed in Special Olympics, witnessing how God is moving through this organization on a global scale was profoundly touching. Seeing athletes of all abilities from around the world celebrate one another, no matter their background or result, was a living example of unconditional love and inclusion. It was truly life-changing to experience.
